The Daily Illini COVID-19 updates for May 13: 192 new virus deaths in Illinois

Wednesday marked Illinois’ deadliest 24-hour period for the coronavirus so far, with 192 new deaths from COVID-19.
The Champaign-Urbana Public Health District announced 14 more cases of the coronavirus in Champaign County on Wednesday, pushing the countywide total to 322 cases.
Of the 322 cases, 147 are active, 168 have recovered and seven have died. Three people with active cases are currently hospitalized. Around 5.14% of Champaign County’s 6,298 tests have proved positive.
About 9.5% of Illinois’ 17,668 new tests proved positive on Wednesday, while 6.3% of 336,901 tests were positive in the U.S.
County health officials recommend anyone with symptoms — fever, cough, shortness of breath, chills, fatigue and loss of taste or smell — to get tested.
