The Daily Illini COVID-19 updates for May 14: U.S. reaches 10 million tests, global death count passes 300,000
May 15, 2020
Barring a surge of positive tests or overwhelmed hospitals, Gov. J.B. Pritzker said Thursday that all regions of Illinois are “poised” to move onto phase 3 of his “Restore Illinois” plan by May 29.
The Champaign-Urbana Public Health District announced 11 more cases of the coronavirus in Champaign County on Wednesday, pushing the countywide total to 333 cases.
Of the 333 cases, 153 are active, 173 have recovered and seven have died. Three people with active cases are currently hospitalized. Fewer than 5% of Champaign County’s 6,717 tests have proved positive.
About 14.3% of Illinois’ 22,678 new tests proved positive on Thursday. Just 2.6% of 419 new tests were positive in Champaign County.
County health officials recommend anyone with symptoms — fever, cough, shortness of breath, chills, fatigue and loss of taste or smell — to get tested.
