By Ethan Simmons, News Editor

A free drive-thru coronavirus testing location is coming to Champaign’s Market Place Shopping Center at 2000 N. Neil St. on Tuesday.

The testing site will be open daily, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. while supplies last. Patients don’t need doctor’s referrals, but will be asked to show photo identification and a healthcare employee or first responder identification, if applicable.

The Champaign-Urbana Public Health District announced 23 more cases of the coronavirus in Champaign County on Wednesday, pushing the countywide total to 356 cases.

Of the 356 cases, 170 are active, 179 have recovered and seven have died. Three people with active cases are currently hospitalized. Fewer than 5% of Champaign County’s 7,682 tests have proved positive.

About 9.15% of Illinois’ 26,565 new tests proved positive on Thursday. Just 2.38% of 965 new tests were positive in Champaign County.
