The University of Illinois Board of Trustees approved an $8.3 billion operating budget for fiscal year 2025 on Sept. 19, representing a 6.25% increase from last year.
The University of Illinois System reported a record number of enrollments for the Fall semester, with a systemwide total of over 97,000 students and a record-breaking class of 9,008 freshmen in August.
According to a statement from the Board of Trustees, budget priorities include meeting the needs of a growing student body, providing additional mental health resources and continuing to enhance academic programs to keep students on track to graduate.
Technological improvements and facility upgrades across all three campuses — Urbana-Champaign, Springfield and Chicago — were also considered. At the University, the board approved an addition to the School of Art and Design and Main Library renovations.
The plan now awaits the approval of the Illinois General Assembly’s state budget, which includes over 700 million in appropriations for FY 2025.
