Police seek out suspect in hit-and-run accident

The Champaign Police Department has issued a warrant for the registered owner of a vehicle believed to have been involved in a hit-and-run accident that killed 76-year-old William C. Higdon.

Police have now requested the help of the community in finding Diosdada Resendes.

At approximately 8 a.m. on Aug. 30, Champaign police officers were dispatched to the intersection of W. Eureka and State streets for a hit-and-run accident involving an injured person.

Higdon was pronounced dead at 12:33 p.m. Thursday at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana due to traumatic head injuries.

Officers located the suspect’s vehicle the same day at the Shadow Wood trailer park on Raintree Drive, according to a press release issued by the Champaign Police Department.

On Aug. 31, the Investigations Unit of the Champaign Police Department applied for and was granted an arrest warrant for “Failure to Report Accident Involving Death,” which carries with it a bond of $100,000.
