The Champaign-Urbana Mass Transit District, or MTD, plans to reroute several campus-area buses, according to a release.

Effective January 2, the 2 Red Weekday; 20 Red Saturday; 8 Orchard Downs Weekday; 80 Orchard Downs Evening, Saturday, and Sunday; 21 Quad; and 24 Scamp will no longer be operating on Mathews Avenue south of Green Street in Urbana. Instead, they will shift one block east to Goodwin Avenue.

All the bus timetables will stay the same, the release said. However, there will no longer be any stops on Mathews south of Green Street.

Jan Kijowski, marketing director for MTD, said that these changes reflect the recommendations of the Campus Area Transportation Study from July 2005. The study was supposed to find ways to improve pedestrian safety on campus.
