Fire trucks dispatched to Engineering Quad on false alarm
April 6, 2009
Fire trucks were dispatched this afternoon to Kenney Gym, 1402 W. Springfield Ave., when a stream of what appeared to be smoke was spotted escaping from the building’s ventilation duct.
The billowing white clouds on the Engineering Quad turned out to be an overpressure of steam, said Scott Tromley, an assistant manager of facilities in the University’s Facilities and Services Department.
Tromley said that the fire trucks were unnecessary and reducing the amount of steam in the ventilation ducts should solve the problem.
