WPGU goes back on air after flooding damage
October 29, 2019
The student-run college radio station WPGU 107.1 is back on the air Monday after heavy rain flooding damages put the station off the air since Saturday afternoon.
WPGU’s station, located in the YMCA basement on Wright Street, experienced about half an inch of rain flood its production studio and less than half an inch of rain in the main studio and common area, according to program director Nectarios Kourtis.
Melissa Pasco, WPGU’s co-general manager, said it’s too early to determine the total cost in damages.
The station live-streamed the damages on its Facebook page. Some members also came in during the weekend to sweep out water and move equipment from the studio.
Although the station is back on air, Kourtis said he doesn’t know when DJs will be back hosting shows.

“It really depends on the equipment,” Kourtis said. “We don’t know how damaged it is yet. We don’t know what’s usable and what’s not, and if we do have to get new equipment, we don’t know how long it’s going to take to either purchase it or receive it as a donation.”
Until the station is fully functional, Kourtis said members plan on doing more Facebook live streams and continuing weekly meetings.
“We want to make sure that people know we’re still around and we’re still working hard,” Kourtis said.
