Parkland College announced Tuesday afternoon that its fall instruction is subject to change depending on the district’s progression into Phase Four of Restore Illinois. However, as of right now students can expect a hybrid online, on-campus semester.

Phase Four of Restore Illinois would allow for gatherings of 50 people or fewer, open outdoor recreation, open businesses with capacity limits and health guidelines and open schools and daycares with approved health guidelines.

If all goes to plan, Illinois could progress to Phase Four as early as late June, according to NBC Chicago. 

For Parkland students, this would mean on-campus courses will be marked as such, but part of the coursework would still be completed online, according to a Parkland College press release.

On-campus courses would still have to follow social distancing guidelines, meaning students may be divided into smaller groups and classes larger enrollments may require staggered scheduling.

Additionally, many on-campus meetings may end after Nov. 20 in order to minimize contact after Thanksgiving break. The classes would still continue online through the end of the regularly scheduled semester.

Some career classes may meet on-campus until the end of the semester, though.

The press release also stated that faculty will continue to communicate with students as the state progresses and students will be notified of which scheduled on-campus days they should attend.

At this time, the University of Illinois has not released a set plan for its students; however, last Wednesday sent out a Massmail of a potential hybrid plan that would also have students partially online and partially on-campus. This hybrid plan would also discontinue in-person meetings after Nov. 20.
