An eastbound lane of Kirby Avenue in Champaign will be closed between Stratford and Scottsdale drives beginning Wednesday while a gas main is being repaired.
The Champaign City Council convened Tuesday night for a study session to discuss the recommended budget strategy proposed by city manager Steve Carter. It has been said that the cuts presented to the council are part of the most challenging budget in 40 years.
The city faces around a $2 to $2.5 million deficit and will likely have to make some cuts into the budgets of many city departments. This comes in addition to about $9 million in cuts of the now $68.4 million budget that have been closed over the past couple of years.
