Letter: In defense of Jon Monteith
September 22, 2004
The opinions section of The DI on Tuesday seemed a little touchy: Two letters in response to Jon Monteith’s column.
I have to admit, I like Jon’s columns. He’s always angry about something, and, usually, rightfully so.
I mean, let’s be serious and stop sugar-coating our view of our glorious University. I’ve seen more students vomiting in the last week than I’ve seen studying. And seriously, how many of us have never said, “Why the hell is that idiot at this university?”
For that matter, how many of us have never had that said about ourselves? Even recently, a friend questioned my intelligence after I walked into Green Street traffic. I was looking at a boy. Heh.
Anyway, I think I like Jon, because he’s too serious and too angry. Everyone else is too lax. There should be more people in the happy middle ground, ready to poke fun at other people and themselves. In the meantime, there always will be people like Jon (angry and, usually, rightfully so) and people like, well, people like nearly everyone else.
