Procedure not common
January 27, 2005
While I took offense to the entire “Blood on their (tiny) hands” editorial by Elie Dvorin, I was most upset by the biased image of abortion that he painted; “…the images of the kicking, struggling children fighting for their lives while the saline salt solution used in abortions burns their bodies alive.” In this, one can assume he’s referring to intrauterine saline instillation. This method, according to the Center for Disease Control, is used in less than 0.5 percent of all abortions performed in the United States. It is not, as Dvorin implicated, the one and only procedure used for abortions. His views may be rooted in ignorance but his facts shouldn’t be.
