Letter: Making your vote count
Nov 7, 2006
The Daily Illini remarks that for the 52nd Senate seat “there’s not a lot separating the two contenders, least of all their platforms,” so little, in fact, that “if it were not for party affiliation, it would be difficult to tell the two apart based on their politics.” But the DI fails to mention the socialist candidacy of Joe Parnarauskis.
Of course the DI is right that students have only two options. Either waste your vote for the Democrat and Republican-which, as the DI confesses, is really no choice at all-or cast your vote for the Socialist Equality Party and Joe Parnarauskis. Every vote for Joe is a vote against war, attacks on democratic rights and living standards and the two-party duopoly. A vote for Joe is a vote toward building a political party of the working class that will put social needs above the profit drive of the big corporations.
