LETTER: More effective solutions

The current intifada is a purposeless and brutally violent campaign waged against innocent Israeli civilians. In other words, the intifada is synonymous with rampant terrorism and for this reason it is unacceptable to hold an event on our campus that commemorates its atrocities. Doing so sends a message that undue violence is tolerated by our community.

Insured stability rather than perpetual violence is a catalyst for positive change. Thus instead of glorifying tragedy, I challenge the proponents of the intifada on our campus to stop blaming Israel for the genuine problems faced by the Palestinians. Instead I urge you to establish reasonable programs or think-tanks devoted to combating the Palestinian crisis by focusing on issues related to the creation of general infrastructure and economic growth.

The campus community must not tolerate the idealization of violence but should come together for acts of humanitarianism.
