Because I am a fan of making lists and of Family Guy’s Peter Griffin, here is an incomplete list of everything that has “grinded my gears” over the past two semesters. As usual, this is in no particular order.
1. Everyone who complains about President Obama. It’s been less than four months, and considering what’s on his plate, it’s too early and silly to make a serious negative comment.
2. Moonstruck Chocolate Café shutting down its Champaign store. With a plethora of Espresso Royales and Starbucks in the area, Moonstruck was a diamond in the rough, and its closing was indeed a crying shame.
3. Not having St. Patrick’s Day during Spring break. No one, as much as they try, is going to be able to stop Unofficial from continuing, and that’s that.
4. Sarah Palin. Along with Matt Damon, I was terrified that she was that close to becoming President of the United States.

5. My fellow students who are not from Chicagoland but decide to constantly rip on it. You’re just jealous.
6. The Clybourne opening on the last day of classes. I’m glad it’s back, but it was a tough task living without my favorite bar for an entire year. Let’s never be apart again.
7. All the red tape involved with anything in the RSO office. Soon they’re going to ask for the Chancellor’s signature on a space request form.
8. Those who verbally attack the Greek community. A few bad apples always make the news and give us a bad reputation, while those who excel in scholarship, philanthropy, and leadership are rarely recognized for their amazing achievements.
9. An ESPN television time slot showing middle-aged men playing poker as opposed to live European soccer, tennis and rugby.
10. People who walk in the bike lanes and bikers that ride on the sidewalk. This is unnecessary.
11. Brett Favre “retiring” every year. It’s not even suspenseful anymore.
12. The people who stand on the campus buses and make it hard for others to exit, when there are plenty of open seats available.
13. Those who are “texting fiends” and are constantly sending messages while driving, walking, eating, or even sleeping. Please take back control of your life.
14. Getting e-mails from RSOs that you signed up for during the Quad Day of your freshmen year but never participated in. Ever.
15. Some of the people who hand out random flyers on the Quad. I, personally, cannot stop the war in Iraq nor do I need to sign up for a new credit card just to get free pizza.
16. Fox News. It is still destroying America one gullible viewer at a time.
17. People who stereotype just about anything. Go read a book.
18. Our University’s lack of substantial scholarships for students wanting to study abroad. Let’s put our thousands of dollars in tuition to something that will actually benefit us for the rest of our lives.
19. Gen-Ed classes. If we want students to be well-rounded, we should just have them take the same amount of classes in their major as in other areas. Otherwise, scrap the requirements and just give students elective hours to take whatever they want.
20. People who don’t wash their hands or cover their mouths when they cough or sneeze. Common sense can stop the “swine flu.”
21. Television shows that are currently having season finales. Don’t we actually have time to keep up with current TV in the summer?
22. Those who write letters to the editor replying to a particular column and making nonsensical claims because they don’t understand the columnist’s argument. It’s happened more often than you think.
