Letter to the Editor: A panhandler's response

Last updated on May 10, 2016 at 06:27 p.m.

I have read the series of articles on panhandling along Green Street and I am one of those individuals who have panhandled along Green Street.

I am one of the very few panhandlers who spend the money on food, but it is going mostly during the overnight hours when there are very few restaurants, such as Merry Ann’s Diner that are open 24 hours out of the day or when my food stamps run out for the month.

I am also one of the very few individuals who do not aggressively panhandle, either. But I do know that with some of the people who were mentioned in the three articles are all either using drugs or have gotten drunk so bad that they have been arrested for an open container of alcohol or have been kicked out of motels because of their habits.
