Letter: No liberal media

By The Daily Illini

I would like to comment on the column written by David Johnson in the Point/Counterpoint section of the opinions page of The Daily Illini.

He stated we live in a society where the media is skewed far to the left. I noticed he forgot to mention the media which crucified President Clinton during the Monica Lewinski and Whitewater scandals. He also forgot to mention that when records of President Bush’s DUI were brought to light four years ago, it was brushed off by the “liberal media” and the Republican Party as a last ditch effort by Democrats to smear Bush’s character.

Another act of the so-called biased media is that we currently are occupying Iraq as well as at war with the ideology of terrorism. The Republican Party has blurred the line of the two wars so much that many would-be voters do not know the difference.

The speeches at the RNC overemphasized that we were already attacked and are fighting back. Although the “liberal media” covered the convention, they failed to analyze and explain to anyone that, while it is true we were attacked and we did attack back, we unfortunately are not fighting who attacked us. This would be the same as if after Pearl Harbor, we attacked Spain because they had an evil dictator.

My major and career aspirations require I keep my nose clean (no pun intended on Bush) because if I pulled some of the stuff Bush did, my career would be over. I hope someday soon some media outlet will cover the acts Bush has committed, and it results in ending his.
