Vaughn honored

Prior to the tournament, former Illinois wrestler and U.S. Marine Corps. captain Jonathan Vaughn was honored by the team. Vaughn received a Purple Heart for his courageous efforts in Iraq, during which sustaining injuries to his hand and leg.

Vaughn said he is feeling healthy and his rehabilitation is successful thus far.

“It felt wonderful to be back in Champaign,” Vaughn said. “I feel this is a second home to me – I’m originally from Cleveland, Ohio, but Champaign took me into their arms early on and it’s been great to come back and meet all my family and friends.

“It’s a great honor. Illinois has always treated me well and gone above and beyond to take care of me, and this is just another example where they look after their student athletes.”
