Mitchell named top recruiter

By Courtney Linehan

UI football assistant coach Reggie Mitchell was recently picked as one of the top-25 recruiters in the country. Rivals.com named the Illini Recruiting Coordinator as one of the country’s best recruiters.

Mitchell directed this season’s signing class, which ranked fourth in the Big Ten. He helped the Illini sign six four-star players, including two top-100 recruits.

Mitchell is beginning his second season at Illinois. He spent four years as the running backs coach and recruiting coordinator at Michigan State University following a year as the Spartans’ wide receivers coach.

This is the second year in a row that an Illini coach was picked for the list. Last season, offensive coordinator Mike Locksley earned the same honor.

The Class of 2006 was announced on Feb. 1. Illinois drew noticeable attention, with head coach Ron Zook’s press conference receiving more than twice the number of hits as any other press conference video feed on the CSTV.com system that day. CoachRonZook.com got more than 48,000 hits on its blog and 19,000 hits on the signing day bios.
