Kisan Flakes transfers for shot at playing time

By Courtney Linehan

Backup quarterback Kisan Flakes will leave the Illinois football team and plans to transfer schools, a source at the Division of Intercollegiate Athletics confirmed Tuesday.

Flakes is a 5-foot-11, 195-pound sophomore from Lovejoy, Ga. After redshirting the 2004 football season, Flakes did not see playing time in 2005, when then-junior Tim Brasic led the Illini offense.

Flakes has decided to look for another school where he might have a better chance at playing time, the source said. Brasic will likely return as Illinois’ starting quarterback for the 2006 season, and highly touted recruit Isiah Williams will be on campus this fall to fight for playing time.

Flakes was suspended for part of the 2005 season after being charged with marijuana possession following a traffic stop last June. When he returned to practice later in the season, Flakes dressed as a wide receiver, but by the end of the season he was back to quarterback.

As a high school player at Lovejoy High School, Flakes was named All-state Offensive Player of the Year and was first-team All-Area.
