In 4 and 1/2 innings the Illinois softball team beat the University of Illinois at Chicago Flames 18-4 at Eichelberger Field, in Urbana, Wednesday, March 21. The Illini’s win was aided by several home runs in the third Inning including a grand slam by outfielder Mak-enzie Smith.

Catcher Lana Armstrong made history by increasing her hitting streak to 13, passing the original record at 12. Wednesday’s win was heavily aided by Smith’s two home runs as well as the teams’ 10 runs in the third inning. The scoreboard at Eichelberger Field was unable to display the Illini’s prolific third inning, because it only can show one digit for the runs scored in a given inning.

The Illini’s next games will be at the Diamond Devil Invitational, in Tempe, Ariz., on March 23
