On Sunday afternoon the Illinois men’s tennis team concluded a successful weekend at the Atkins Tennis Center with a commanding 6-1 victory over visiting Iowa.

The Illini captured the first point of the match with two victories in doubles competition. Their momentum carried into singles play as the Hawkeyes won just three sets.

Senior GD Jones was honored at a brief ceremony between the doubles and singles matches. Jones, the team’s lone senior, battled through discomfort in his shoulder to grind out an impressive 3-6, 7-6, 1-0 victory in the last regular season match of his college career.

The Illini head to West Lafayette, Ind. next weekend for the start of Big Ten Tournament play.
