Sox bullpen unravels in loss to Pirates
June 18, 2007
PITTSBURGH – Nate McLouth had a career-high four RBIs and Jose Bautista homered and had two RBIs for the Pittsburgh Pirates in an 8-7 victory over the Chicago White Sox on Sunday afternoon.
Jack Wilson scored three runs, and Xavier Nady’s two-run single in the seventh broke a 5-5 tie and proved to be the winning hit for Pittsburgh, which finished its interleague homestand 4-2.
Juan Uribe had two hits and two RBIs for the White Sox, who had a five-run fourth inning but lost for the 17th time in 21 games.
With Jason Bay at first and two outs in the bottom of the seventh, White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen called on left-hander Boone Logan to face Adam LaRoche. LaRoche hit a double into the gap in left that likely would have scored Bay, but the ball bounced over the fence for a ground-rule double, forcing Bay to stop at third.
Guillen then brought in right-hander Mike MacDougal to face Nady, who hit a line drive to center to score Bay and LaRoche and get reliever Shawn Chacon (3-1) a win. Nick Masset (2-3) walked McLouth with one out in the seventh.
