Illini volleyball wins home opener

Illinois’ home opener at Huff Hall ended with a victory as the Illini defeated Marquette, 30-24, 30-22, 30-24, to win 3-0.

The offense was led by freshman Laura DeBruler, who finished the game with 19 kills with 5 digs while hitting .381, and senior Vicki Brown added 11 kills while hitting .286. Setter Lizzie Bazzetta set up Illinois with her 46 assists to lead the team.

Defensively the Illini stepped up to the challenge preventing Marquette from hitting higher than .171 in the game. Also, Marquette did not have an ace in the game. Illinois moves to 5-2 on the season.

Illinois faces Creighton in the championship match on Saturday at 3 p.m. at Huff Hall.
