Illinois football head coach Ron Zook announced Sunday that freshman linebacker Erique Robertson has been suspended indefinitely for violation of team rules.

“There is a certain conduct that members of our team will adhere to,” Zook said in a statement. “When our players don’t behave in that way, there will be consequences. We will continue to closely evaluate Erique’s situation.”

Cassie Arner, a spokesperson for the team, said she could not specify what rule had been broken, only that Robertson was suspended and the team didn’t know when he would be back.

It was uncertain whether other Illinois football players were involved.

“At this point, only one player is being disciplined and it looks like that is the way it’ll be,” said Arner, associate sports information director.

Robertson, 19, is from Maple Heights, Ohio.
