Men’s tennis defeats Duke

By Alex Iniguez

The Illinois men’s tennis team took down No. 15 Duke tonight, 4-3, in thrilling fashion.

Tied up at 3 apiece, the Illini’s hopes came down to Brandon Davis on court six. The senior won the first set 7-6, dropped the second set 3-6 and fought through an intense third set and tiebreaker, 7-6 (4), to seal the victory for Illinois.

Ruben Gonzalez and Waylon Chin also recorded victories in singles competition, and doubles teams No. 36 Ryan Rowe and Billy Heiser and Brandon Davis and Ruben Gonzales secured the doubles point for the Illini.

The win brought Illinois’ record to 2-1 on the young season. The weekend doesn’t get any easier, as the Orange and Blue travel to Knoxville, Tenn., on Sunday to take on No. 24 Tennessee.
