The No. 12 Illinois men’s tennis team defeated No. 17 LSU, 6-1, Saturday night.

The Illini were cruising early, sweeping the three doubles matches and four singles matches before losing its only singles match at No. 6 singles.

Ruben Gonzales, Ryan Rowe, Billy Heiser, Marc Spicijaric and Waylon Chin each recorded singles victories. Heiser fought back from being down 5-2 in the third set before winning, 6-3, 3-6, 7-5. Rowe and Gonzales easily took down their opponents in two-set matches.

“It’s good to get a win,” head coach Brad Dancer said. “We talked early in the week about getting another win streak going at Atkins, but from a performance standpoint, we have to get better.”
