The Illinois men’s tennis team defeated No. 27 TCU, 5-2, Wednesday night. The Illini (9-4) and Horned Frogs (10-4) came out hot at the Atkins Tennis Center before No. 16 Illinois narrowly swept the doubles point. Two out of three doubles matches were decided in tiebreakers. No. 20 Ryan Rowe and Billy Heiser topped Emanuel Brighiu and Adrian Simon, 8-3, to round out doubles play.

The Illini had less trouble in singles play. No. 92 Ruben Gonzales quickly defeated TCU’s Emanuel Brighiu, 6-2, 6-1, and was followed by two more straight-set victories by No. 14 Ryan Rowe and Marc Spicijaric to clinch the match for the Illini.

“I think we’re tired,” head coach Brad Dancer said. “We just keep playing and we haven’t found the time to recover. We have a lot of guys that are tired, but we saw the senior leadership tonight. Unfortunately for the crowd, they saw two tired teams tonight.”
