Trustees to consider contract extension for athletic director

By The Associated Press

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – University of Illinois trustees will consider giving Athletic Director Ron Guenther a $75,000-a-year raise and extending his contract by two years.

University President Joseph White has recommended that trustees approve the new deal, which they’ll consider next Thursday in Urbana.

Guenther’s salary would be $600,000 a year and his contract would run through 2010. The university would pay him another $100,000 if he stays through the end of the deal.

Guenther has been athletic director since 1992.

He successfully pushed to expand Memorial Stadium and has said the university should renovate Assembly Hall or build a new basketball arena.
