Illini pitching and offense combined for a dominating performance Saturday, defeating Minnesota 10-2 in five innings.
In first inning, senior shortstop Angelena Mexicano hit her 17th homer of the season to set a new record for most Illini homeruns in a single season. And that was only the beginning of the offense for Illinois (25-24, 4-8 Big Ten).
The Fighting Illini scored six more runs in the second as they batted around the order in the inning against Minnesota (22-13, 5-5 Big Ten) pitchers Katie Dalen and Briana Hassett.
Senior third baseman Shanna Diller and junior catcher Lana Armstrong each added two RBIs for Illinois, but there were contributions throughout the lineup.

“Everyone was confident, it gets contagious,” head coach Terri Sullivan said. “It’s not just one player.”
In the circle, senior pitcher Claire DeVreese had another strong performance, going four innings before surrendering two runs, one earned, in the fifth.
Big Ten foe Wisconsin will be in Urbana for a doubleheader on Sunday.
