Women’s tennis comes back for win against Minnesota

By Brett Greenberg

The Illini came from behind to put the No. 69 Golden Gophers away 4-3 on Saturday at the Atkins Tennis Center.

Illinois (10-9) went back to their old ways in doubles, losing the point 2-1. Sophomore Kristina Minor and freshman Annie McCarthy took care of business on court three however, quickly winning 8-3.

In singles, the Illini dropped two of their first three matches in two sets a piece. It seemed they couldn’t shake off their loss of the doubles point.

But down 3-1, they turned up the intensity and rattled off three straight wins to finish the match. Sophomore Megan Fudge and freshman Marisa Lambropoulos both won their matches in three sets after coming out sluggish to start.
