Baseball bows out of Big Ten Tournament

Illinois trailed came within two after facing a 9-1 deficit, but it wasn’t enough as Indiana defeated Illinois 14-7 in the third round of the Big Ten Tournament on Friday. With the loss, the Illini were eliminated from the tourney after getting off to a promising start Wednesday, defeating Ohio State 3-2.

Starter Phil Haig allowed seven runs in four innings of work, while his counterpart, Indiana’s Tyler Tufts, pitched nine and allowed six earned runs..

In his final game with the Illini, senior Ryan Hastingss went 3-for-4 from the plate, scoring twice and driving in a run. Fellow senior Daniel Webb was 2-for-5 with a run scored.

Indiana scored three runs in the first off Haig to begin a day in which the Hoosiers scored in six innings. Three times Indiana tallied at least three runs in an inning, including five in the bottom of the eighth to put the game out of reach.
