After being in question for the first two weeks of the season, Illinois’ defense stifled Louisiana Lafayette, in a 20-17 victory.

The defense came on early against Ragin’ Cajun quarterback Michael Desormeaux, when linebacker Brit Miller stripped the senior for a 27-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown.

A Drew Edmiston field goal put up the only points Louisiana-Lafayette was able to muster in the first half, with Illinois leading 17-3 at the break.

Illinois defensive back Vontae Davis led the team in tackles through the third quarter, with 11. Running back Daniel Dufrene ran for 126 yards on the ground, setting a new personal best.
