Matchup to Watch: Arrelious Benn vs. Penn State defense

Last season, wide receiver Arrelious Benn returned a kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown in Illinois’ 27-20 victory against Penn State at Memorial Stadium. The then-freshman also caught a pass in the end zone for a touchdown and finished the game with 84 receiving yards.

The Nittany Lions’ cornerbacks will try to contain Juice William’s premier target on Saturday, as they attempt to settle the score with the Illini. Lydell Sargeant and Tony Davis lead the cornerback group for the Nittany Lions. Davis has one interception on the season for seven yards and has accumulated seven tackles. Sargeant also has seven tackles in Penn State’s first four games. Meanwhile, Benn, the 2007 Big Ten Freshman of the Year, caught seven passes in each of his first two games of the season and is averaging 50 receiving yards per game.

His two touchdowns on the season were both scored on the ground. Benn will be one of the keys to keep the Illini offense rolling Saturday in the presence of 107,000 Nittany Lion fans dressed in white, while Sargeant and Davis will hope to halt that role by applying tough pressure down the field.
