Hockey sweeps weekend series against Michigan-Dearborn

The top ranked Illinois hockey team picked up where it left off Friday, beating the University of Michigan-Dearborn by a score of 10-1 on Saturday night.

Tim Gilbert of the Illini started the scoring with a goal midway through the first period. Michigan-Dearborn responded with a goal by Steve Popp with seven minutes remaining in the first, but that would be the only scorel Illini goalie DJ Koehler would allow on the night.

The Illini capitalized on their power play chances by scoring on five of nine chances.

In the barrage of scoring from the Illini, Jason Nemeth moved into sole possession of ninth place on the Illini all-time points list. Brad Hoelzer also contributed four goals in the victory.
