For the second consecutive season, a Fighting Illini wrestler was crowned champion at the highly competitive Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational.

Illinois’ Jimmy Kennedy took home the individual title for the 133-pound class, defeating Boise State’s Andrew Hochstrasser in the championship match. Mike Poeta was unable to try and defend his 157 title from last year due to a leg injury.

Kennedy’s path to the Invitational’s championship was highlighted by a pin of Wisconsin’s Tom Kellher in the first round, as well as a 17-2 technical fall over Adams State’s Arsenia Barksdale in the second round.

Other notable Illini finishes included a seventh place finish by Jordan Blanton at 184 and an eight place finish by Ryan Prater at 141. The Illini as a team finished tied with Wisconsin for 13th with 64.5 total points.
