Illinois crushed any hopes Boise State may have had to kick off their inaugural season with a win Friday night as the Illini cruised to an 8-2 victory.

Leading the way for the Illini in game one was pitcher Monica Perry, who earned her first collegiate victory (1-0). The freshman pitched seven innings and allowed just two runs.

But the winning wasn’t over for Illinois, who also defeated James Madison on Friday.

Second baseman Danielle Zymkowitz sparked the Illini offense all night. Against Boise State, the sophomore went 3-3 with an RBI. And the streak didn’t end there. She was 4-4 with 3 RBIs against James Madison in game two of the night.

The Cathedral City Kickoff continues on Saturday as the Illini battle No. 14 California and No. 20 Long Beach State.
