Illini baseball bash Zips 4-3, 13-9 in double dip
March 13, 2009
The No. 21 Illini baseball team took a double dip from the Zips, beating Akron 4-3 and 13-9 in a double-header Saturday to take their third game in the series.
The Zips (2-14) weren’t any closer in the series’ opener who were on the receiving end of a 10-1 thrashing.
In the second end of the double-header, the Illini held a 13-2 lead until the seventh inning, when the Zips staged a furious comeback attempt in which they scored seven runs. It was not to be, though, as Wes Braun closed out the final out after giving up two runs.
Dominic Altobelli had four RBIs in the game and five for the day, and freshman Willie Argo hit his fourth home run in four games in the opener as the Illini move to 10-2 for the season.
