University alumnus donates $5 million to State Farm Center

By Daily Illini Staff Report

An University alumnus has donated a naming rights gift of $5 million to support the State Farm Center renovation project, according to a press release from the Division of Intercollegiate Athletics.

The arena’s Traditions Club will be named after 1983 graduate John Giuliani following the donation.

“John grew up in nearby Rantoul, graduated from Illinois and is one of our most passionate supporters. He has long been involved in the i-Fund program, but the naming rights gift is one of the ultimate signs of support for his Alma Mater,” athletic director Mike Thomas said in a press release.

According to Illinois athletics, the John Giuliani Family Traditions Club is set to be largest premium club space inside State Farm Center and will be used in a similar fashion as the Colonnades Club and the 77 Club are within Memorial Stadium.

The release also stated this was the “first of several major announcements for State Farm Center,” which is being renovated to include premium seating, extra amenities and state-of-the-art technology.
