Scheelhaase returning to Fighting Illini

Last updated on May 5, 2016 at 11:13 p.m.

Nathan Scheelhaase will return to the Fighting Illini, this time as the assistant director of football operations.

Scheelhaase will take over the position after turning down an offer a year ago. The position was held by another former Illini quarterback, Juice Williams. Williams left the position after taking a position at Georgetown in April.

Scheelhaase is one of four former Illini to have held this position.

Scheelhaase led Illinois to bowl wins in both 2010 and 2011, and had a strong final season at Illinois in 2013 under offensive coordinator Bill Cubit. Scheelhaase holds the record for yards gained with 10,634.
