Redshirt senior Alyssa Schneider was named Big Ten women’s cross-country Athlete of the Week after her performance at Saturday’s Roy Griak Invitational.

Schneider ran the 6K course in 21 minutes and 27 seconds, which was good for fourth overall in the 26-team race.

She finished first overall at the Illini Challenge September 4th and then set a personal record for a 5K course at the ISU Invitational the next week, posting 17:03. Schneider was also the first runner to cross the finish line at the invitational.

This was Schneider’s first time receiving the award. Collette Falsey was awarded Co-Athlete of the Year for the Illini last year. Schneider looks to continue her momentum into the next invitational on the schedule, Pre-Nationals on October 17th in Louisville, KY.
