Cameron Viney, a University track runner, was arrested at midnight Thursday on the charges of driving under the influence of alcohol and driving on a sidewalk.

According to the police report, Viney was seen by a library security guard near David Kinley Hall, 1407 W. Gregory Dr., “slumped over the steering wheel” of his vehicle. His vehicle was parked on the sidewalk.

The 22-year-old West Viriginia native was named First Team All-American as a member of a 4×400 meter relay team that competed in the 2015 NCAA Championships.

In the 2014 outdoor track season, Viney placed 22nd in the NCAA Championships and finished runner-up in the Big Ten Championships in the 400 meter hurdles. He also finished the 400 meter hurdles with the fourth-fastest time — 50.09 seconds — in University history at the Drake Relays, according to Viney’s profile on the University’s athletics site.

Neither Viney nor Kent Brown, associate director of athletics, could be immediately reached for comment.
