The Illini Courtsiders Organization, the official support group of Illinois women’s basketball, announced a $73,000 donation to the women’s basketball program Wednesday.
A ceremonial check will be presented to the team at the women’s basketball game Saturday. The donation will be spent on new video equipment, an Omegawave performance technology system and to remodel the Ubben Practice Facility locker room, according to the press release.
Illini Courtsiders’ goal is to better the program by providing fan and financial support for needs not included in the budget, according to the release.
“These young women deserve our support and the community’s attention,” said Jen Shelby, Illini Courtsiders’ president, in the press release.
Shelby said the women in the basketball program our receiving a “top-notch” education that the organization wants to be matched by their student-athlete experience.
“The support we receive from Courtsiders is valuable in many ways,” Illinois head coach Matt Bollant said in the release.
