Illini football players learn of Cubit's firing via Twitter

Bill Cubit was fired as Illinois’ football coach and from their tweets, it appears Illini football players and recruits were not notified before their coach was dismissed.

A Champaign radio station reported Whitman spoke to John Groce on Saturday morning and assured the Illinois basketball coach that his job was secure. Then he met with Cubit, and reportedly dismissed him.
