Gay, Dorsey out for spring practice due to ‘personal issues’
March 13, 2018
On Monday, Illinois football head coach Lovie Smith announced that freshmen Louis Dorsey and Isaiah Gay will not be with the team for the entirety of spring practice due to “personal issues”.
Dorsey, at the tight end position, was second in receiving yards for the Illini with 395 yards. He led the team in receiving touchdowns, racking up three, and caught 22 passes total for an average of 18 yards per catch, the highest average on the team.
Gay, a defensive lineman, appeared in all 12 games, starting two, and had 20 tackles and a blocked kick at South Florida. When he made his first career start in the second game against Western Kentucky, he became the third-youngest player in FBS history to start a game.
Smith declined to comment further on the suspensions.
