Illinois goes undefeated in Redbird Classic, goes 9-0 in final three nonconference matches

The Illinois volleyball team (8-3) won the Illinois State Redbird Classic on Friday and Saturday, playing in three matches and not losing a set.

Coming into the weekend, Illinois defeated Omaha and SMU at the Bluejay Invitational, while losing to Creighton. Sophomore outside hitter Raina Terry and graduate student outside hitter Megan Cooney were named to the all-tournament team.

Illinois comfortably defeated Missouri Friday, 25-15, 25-14 and 25-21. Junior middle blocker Kennedy Collins led the Illini with 13 kills, and senior defensive specialist Taylor Kuper had 18 digs.

Illinois then played in-state rival Illinois State Friday night. The Illini dominated the match, winning all three sets with an identical score of 25-16. Cooney had 14 kills in the win, and Kuper had 10 digs. Collins also had one block.

The Illini had one more match on Saturday, and they played North Texas. The set scores were not identical, but Illinois easily won all three sets, 25-19, 25-21, 25-12, respectively. Kuper had 16 digs, and Terry had 10 kills.

Illinois now heads into Big Ten play, traveling to Iowa to take on the Hawkeyes on Wednesday evening.
