Indiana comes back from behind, Illinois soccer suffers third straight loss
September 26, 2021
The Illini fell 2-1 in their third straight match in the Big Ten at Hoosier territory on Sunday afternoon.
In what was another frustrating loss for Illinois, the team continued to struggle to turn their luck around.
However, the game started in the Illini’s favor after Kendra Pasquale scored the opening goal in the seventh minute.
Indiana struggled to find the reply within the first five minutes of the goal, but toward the end of the first half, the team fired some chances that were saved by Naomi Jackson.
In the second half, Indiana pushed for the equalizer and got their wish in the 65th minute.

Paige Webber had the ball outside of the box and got past her defenders for an open chance on goal. Her shot found the back of the net past the hands of Jackson.
Illinois charged up field to try and get themselves ahead again, but miscommunication and lost balls in midfield plagued the attack.
The Hoosiers game winning goal came from outside of the box once again. A great passing combination ended with Melanie Forbes sprinting from her own half into Illinois territory.
Forbes, the lone Hoosier in the attack, took it from distance and the low, bouncing shot trickled past Jackson for the win.
Illinois’ attack suffered in Bloomington as it only took a total of three shots and two on goal. On the other side of the field, Indiana had no problems getting shots off with 12.
The Illini have only a couple more days until they’re own the road again and have some things to work on to hopefully get some points under their name in the Big Ten.
Illinois move to 0-3 in the Big Ten and will continue on Thursday night against in-state rival Northwestern in Evanston.
