Illinois women’s tennis competes at ITA Midwest Regional

The Illinois women’s tennis team competed at the ITA Midwest Regional this past weekend at Atkins Tennis Center.
Friday was day one of the tournament. Senior Shivani Ingle and freshman Kida Ferrari won their first-round singles match to open the weekend, but both were eliminated from singles competition following the second round on Friday. Freshmen Kasia Treiber and Megan Heuser both received first-round byes and won their matches in the round of 64. Juniors Ashley Yeah and Josie Frazier also won their second-round matches to advance to Saturday’s round of 32.
Illinois also competed in the doubles tournament on Saturday. Heuser and Yeah defeated Illinois State, and Ferrari and Treiber won their match in the Round of 32 on Saturday. In the singles tournament, Yeah, Frazier and Heuser won their matches and advanced to the quarterfinals, and Treiber was eliminated in the Round of 32.
Heuser and Yeah won their doubles match on Sunday, the last day of the tournament. Treiber and Ferrari lost to Northwestern. Yeah, Frazier and Heuser won their singles matches.
Sophomore Kate Duong, Yeah, Frazier and Heuser will advance to the ITA Super Regionals in singles, while Duong and Frazier, Treiber and Ferrari and Heuser and Yeah will advance in singles. Super Regionals will be held at Ohio State on Oct. 22-26. Illinois will continue its fall schedule with the Northwestern Invite in Evanston on Oct. 8-10.
