After having its schedule postponed in the 2020-2021 season, Illinois will look to end its season strong in a meet in which Illinois divers historically have been successful.

The last time Illinois participated in the event was in February 2020, when then sophomore Taylor Shegos finished first in the three-meter dive, beating out University of Illinois at Chicago counterpart and diving standout Cydney Liebenberg.

Shegos and Liebenberg, now seniors, will look to face off once again for their respective teams.

Also competing in the meet will be the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay and Milwaukee, all teams that Illinois swimming competed against in the House of Champions Invitational in November.

The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay’s all-freshmen diving team will look to get their first taste of competition in this annual event.

The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee will be headlined by sophomore McKenzie Sanchez, who was a freshman standout at the last UIC Diving Invitational.

Sanchez placed in third in both diving events, showing a lot of potential. Now, with two more years of experience under their belt, one can only assume that they’ll be even more successful this time around.

The UIC Diving Invitational will take place at the Flames Natatorium at 11 a.m on Saturday.
