Illinois women’s gymnastics travels to Toledo for Big Five Meet

After competing against Michigan State in East Lansing last weekend, the Illini will be hitting the road once more to face off against some more Big Ten opponents in Toledo, Ohio.

During their last meet against the Spartans, the Illini fell, 197.425-196.450, which marked their highest team score thus far this season.

This time around, Illinois will be competing in the Big Five Meet, which will feature No. 1 Michigan, No. 17 Iowa, No. 22 Ohio State and Maryland on Friday night.

Junior all-around specialist Mia Takekawa has continued to shine for the Illini all season. She most recently scored a 9.875 on the bars during the Illini’s last matchup against the Spartans.

Sophomore Kaitlyn Ewald also tied Takekawa’s team high score of 9.875 on the bars, which helped the Illini achieve a total score of 49.275.

This previous meet also marked junior McKenzie Eddy’s collegiate debut after facing numerous injuries since joining the program. 

The Big Five Meet is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. at the Huntington Center in Toledo and will be broadcasted by FloGymnastics. 

Following this meet, the women’s squad will be competing at home in Huff Hall for three weeks straight, starting with a head-to-head matchup against Rutgers on Feb. 25.
